This policy covers davecto.com, the personal website of Dave Brown. It explains what the site collects, why it collects it, who else handles it, and how to have it changed or deleted. If anything here is unclear, email hi@davecto.com.
The short version
The site doesn't run analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts. The only personal information I collect is an email address you choose to give me, either by signing up for a resource or waitlist or by emailing me directly. I don't sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone other than the email service that stores it.
What the site collects
When you browse. Pages are served by Vercel, the hosting provider. Like any web host, Vercel receives standard request information to deliver pages and keep the site running: your IP address, browser and device type, the page you asked for, and the time. I don't use that information to identify you or build a profile of you.
When you sign up with your email. The resources, Founder Reads, and the community waitlists ask for an email address. When you submit one, the site sends your address to Kit (kit.com), the email service I use, and tags it with the list you joined. I use it to send you what you signed up for and to email you when I publish something new. Every email includes an unsubscribe link.
When you email me. Your message and address stay in my inbox. I use them to reply and for nothing else.
Cookies and local storage
dbr_unlockedcookie. Set after you sign up, so the resources stay unlocked in your browser. Its value is just1, it contains no personal information, and it expires after a year.- Local storage. Your browser remembers your light or dark theme preference. On the resource pages it also remembers the email address you signed up with, so you don't have to type it again, and whether you joined a waitlist. This stays on your device unless you submit a form, and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings.
The site sets no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Other services
- Vercel hosts the site and processes request information to deliver it.
- Kit stores the email list.
- Google Fonts and jsDelivr. A few resource guides and video pages load fonts or scripts from these services, which receive your IP address and browser information when they do.
- Instagram. Pages with embedded Reels load them from Instagram, which may set its own cookies under Meta's privacy policy.
- Links out. Links to LinkedIn, Instagram, GitHub, and other sites are covered by those sites' own policies once you follow them.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe from any email with one click. To see what I hold about you, correct it, or have your address deleted from the list entirely, email hi@davecto.com and I'll take care of it. Depending on where you live, laws like the GDPR or the CCPA give you these rights formally. I honor them for everyone.
Children
The site isn't directed at children under 13, and I don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this policy changes, I'll update this page and the date at the top.
